2024 Artists in Residence Performance

Artists in Residence 2024

The in-person Artists-In-Residence program was held on Friday, April 12, 2024 at the Frick Fine Arts Auditorium. Artists Include:

The Department of Physics and Astronomy Artists-in-Residence Program began in 2016 and provides undergraduate and graduate students in the University of Pittsburgh’s Kenneth P. Dietrich School of Arts and Sciences an opportunity to submit research projects that respond to physics and astronomy research from creative visual arts, literary, film, performance, music composition, and design perspectives. Currently open to English, architecture, film studies, music, studio arts, and theatre arts majors and minors, the program allows students to embed themselves in a Department of Physics and Astronomy research lab or group to envision and produce a response that connects to the scientific research. Once selected, the artists/composers spend time each week with the research group and create a unique work, body of work, composition, or set of compositions in response that is presented at an exhibition/performance at the end of the spring term. Selected artists receive $500 at the end of the program. Collaborative applications are welcome. Funding for reasonable material and presentation expenses also is provided. For more information about the Artists-in-Residence Program, visit physicsandastronomy.pitt.edu/AIR.

The 2024 Artists-in-Residence Program is a collaboration among the Departments of English, Music, Physics and Astronomy, Studio Arts, and Theatre Arts; the Architectural Studies Program; and the Film and Media Studies Program.

We extend a special thank you to Bettye J. and Ralph E. Bailey Dean Adam Leibovich for the generous support of this program, and congratulations to all of our artists!
