The Department of Physics and Astronomy is pleased to announce that we have received funding from the NASA Pennsylvania Space Grant Consortium to support undergraduate research!
Several undergraduate students will be supported in the summer of 2026 for 10 full-time weeks during the 12-week period between Monday, May 25th and Friday, August 14th. Students who receive these internships will be expected to work full-time on a research project directed by a faculty mentor, who will decide which 10 weeks you should work. In addition to the internship award, a housing stipend is given during the summer.
Please note that only U.S. Citizens are eligible to receive one of these awards.
The deadline for the summer 2026 applications is Friday, May 15th, 2026.
NASA generally requires us to give priority to STEM (science, technology, engineering, and math) projects that are directly related to the NASA Astrophysics Science Directorate (https://science.nasa.gov/astrophysics). This relationship should be discussed in your proposal.
Selection will be based on merit, but preference will also be given to candidates who have not received one of these internships in the past.
The application materials should include:
- A research plan that includes:
- Your name and email address
- The name, department, and email address of your faculty mentor
- Your research proposal (1-2 pages)
- A letter of recommendation from your faculty mentor.
- A transcript (official or unofficial).
All application materials and questions should be sent to:
