Departmental 3-Minute-Thesis Competition Winners

The Physics & Astronomy Department's 3-Minute-Thesis (3MT) Competition took place on Wed, Feb 22, at 4:30pm.

The 3MT Competition cultivates presentation and research communication skills in an engaging and entertaining way that prepares students for career success in any setting. Doctoral students who passed their candidacy examination compete to articulate the significance of their dissertation research to a non-specialist audience in three minutes or less.

The winners who will be nominated for the Dietrich School 3MT Competition are:

Biprateep Dey, "Making the largest maps of our Universe"
Mary Jane Brundage, “Peer Instruction in Quantum Mechanics.”
Travis Court, “Type Ia Supernova Remnants - How Environments Shape an Explosion”

These students will be moving on to the Dietrich School 3MT Competition (Friday, March 17, 2023, from 1-3 pm in the William Pitt Union), where winners will be awarded prizes from $250 (1st place) to $100 (2nd & 3rd place).
