Title: Golden Era of Modern Magnetism

Abstract: Magnetism has been an old subject dating back to antiquity.  Few could envision in the late 1980’s that magnetism would enter a golden era in which so many new phenomena would be discovered in rapid succession, and expeditiously exploited in cutting-edge technologies.  The culprits have been the spin-based phenomena due to spin ½ of electrons, as exemplified in this talk through several recent examples, including pure spin current phenomena, skyrmion materials, and p-wave superconductivity.
