Accelerating discoveries with intelligent detectors

In the hunt for rare phenomena, particle physicists are increasingly turning to large detectors and intense particle sources to improve their odds of discovery. To cope with the resulting data rates, particle detectors of the future must become intelligent, performing real-time data analysis with sufficient sophistication to sense subtle signals of New Physics. This will require that modern analysis techniques, including machine learning algorithms, can be deployed to extreme environments and provided with high-granularity information, correlated across the detector. To peek into the future of intelligent detectors, I will consider developing efforts from today's cutting-edge experiments, how they might inform future designs, and benefit contemporary experiments along the way.
