Title: Living as if we have a future on this Earth

Abstract: We are living in the Anthropocene. Recent research shows that humans are — on many fronts — pushing the Earth beyond its “planetary boundaries” to sustain the environment in which we have thrived. A possible outcome is the crossing of “tipping points” in the Earth System. Anthropogenic climate change is a particularly alarming case in point. Global warming and its effects are accelerating non-linearly, with the consequence that the risk of crossing a fundamental tipping is now non-neglible.
