Planet with two Suns

Abstract: One of the most exciting exoplanet breakthroughsenabled by the Kepler mission was the discovery of circumbinary planets (CBPs)orbiting main sequence binary stars. Only about a dozen were found, however,leaving a vast gap in our understanding -- similar to the state of exoplanetscience 20 years ago when only a handful of hot Jupiters were known. With two newCBP discoveries and the potential for many more, the TESS mission advances thelegacy of the previous decade and establishes the framework for the next tenyears. In addition to enchanting individual CBP systems and their intriguingdynamics, new discoveries will enable statistical studies of occurrence rates,formation, and habitability of CBPs, as well as provide a deeper understandingof the formation and evolution of close binary stars.
