The Department of Physics and Astronomy is pleased to announce the Dr. Mark L. Campbell Award for Physics and Astronomy Majors.

The Department of Physics and Astronomy offers two awards of $1,250 each to juniors and seniors with a declared major in the Department of Physics and Astronomy.

These awards may be used to help with educational expenses exclusive of tuition, room, and board. Examples of possible expenses that may be paid from these awards include, for example, books, computers or peripherals, travel to a conference or research collaboration or similar educational expenses.

The award will recognize majors in the Department of Physics and Astronomy who demonstrate both a commitment to scholarship and to the support of others in their academic community.

(2) Commitment to supporting other individuals studying Physics and Astronomy as demonstrated by a track record of mentoring, teaching, tutoring, advocacy for Physics and/or Astronomy, or service to the Department of Physics and Astronomy.

Interested students are asked to apply by Friday, December 12th, 2025 by submitting a 1 page self-nomination to Michele Slogan at slogan@pitt.edu, which should describe qualifications based on the preceding criteria.

A strong nomination will address briefly both evidence for excellence in scholarship and evidence for support of the study of Physics and Astronomy.
